GOD

WHO IS GOD?

A question that often arises in the minds of human beings is the question of our origin. Where did we come from? What makes this question difficult is that the first individual who had life on earth is no longer around to provide us with their first-hand account. So how do we determine humanity’s origin? I think a great start is looking at the evidence.

Planet earth

Our sun is just the right distance from our planet. If the sun were closer, we would burn up. If our sun were further, we would freeze to death. So the distance from our sun is the precise distance needed to support life. Do you believe this is a coincidence?

Let’s think about oxygen

As humans, we breathe oxygen; without it, we would die. However, the plants and trees on this planet need to absorb something called carbon dioxide in order to live. Well, believe it or not, humans inhale oxygen and exhale carbon monoxide, and plants absorb carbon monoxide and release oxygen! In a way, plants help support human life, and we help support plant life! Can it be happenstance that our earth supports the air we breathe?

What about the human body?

Our bodies are a complex system of organs, bones, cells, and muscles all working together that allow us to live, move, think, reproduce, grow, and even heal.

The command center of our bodies is the brain. Connected to the rest of the body by neural pathways, the brain transmits signals that control everyday functions from breathing, thinking, speaking, and feeling. Is it possible that the way our internal systems are wired and function as a unit are simply happenstance?

Let me ask you this: When you see the internal components of a computer, or the engine inside of a car, do you believe it’s a coincidence or do you believe there was an intelligent designer who carefully crafted those parts?

If we think about life on this planet and how complex the systems are that support life, we find that there are two main views that claim to have the answers to the origination of life.

One view declares that there was a big bang, and all life was created from that big bang.

Another view says that a supernatural Individual created all life. This view says that the Individual who created life simply spoke it into existence. No Big Bang, no Evolution, and no Natural Selection were needed. The Individual who created us is called God.

Who Is God?

God is the Being from whom all life originated. Even if we believed the universe began with a big bang…we would still have to ask: Who created the matter that resulted in the big bang? It is scientifically impossible to create something out of nothing—unless you are operating outside the realm of time and space. In essence, only God has the ability to create something out of nothing and this is why we believe that a supernatural being called God preexisted life.

In order for God to create the universe and life itself, He would have to be all-powerful. And this powerful Being is the One who sustains life as we know it.

As we continue through these studies, you will learn more about this powerful being and how you can personally get to know Him for yourself.
