The Son of God
The Scriptures reveal that when God created the world He was not alone when. Genesis records the events that occurred during creation week and reveals that when God created man, He said, “…Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” (Genesis 1:26). Here we see that someone was with God when the world was created.
According to John, who was with God when He created the world?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God… John 1:1
Here we see that the Word was the individual who was with God.
Who created everything?
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Colossians 1:16-17
According to the Bible, God created all things through the individual known as The Word.
What did the Word become?
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NKJV
The Word of God became human and lived among us on earth, yet He was begotten of God.
Why did the Word become flesh?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17
The Word, who was also known as God’s Son, came to earth wrapped in the flesh of a human being. He was called Jesus Christ (the Messiah). He came into this world as a human in order to save humanity. He was born as a baby; He ate, slept, and cried just like every other human. Nevertheless, God’s Son had a specific mission to save the world.
Did the Old Testament ever prophesy about Jesus?
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Isaiah 53:5-7
These prophetic texts among many others, help paint a picture of the life and mission of Jesus the Messiah. The Bible reveals that Jesus came to this earth to die for our sins. Where Adam failed by sinning, Christ succeeded by resisting temptation. It is because of Christ that we have an opportunity to receive eternal life.
